Doubles Tennis Ladder

Announcements

Last Updated 03/09/2025 at  6 PM.

  • Teams are limited to two players with a maximum NTRP 8.0 total. Ladder will start over every two months. Team membership can be changed at this time.
  • Teams can include any gender and age.
  • Any player can be on a maximum of two teams.
  • You can join the ladder with a partner or be set up with a partner.
  • The team at the top of the ladder at the end of each two month period cannot team up for the following six months (maybe 4 months?).
  • Team players can be changed at any time if one player is no longer available to play tennis. The team's position on the ladder will remain at the location of the higher placed player.
  • All matches will be played at Wimberley ISD tennis courts unless both teams agree to another location.
  • One player on a team can be designated as the contact for that team. Player will have an * in front of their name.

Check this webpage (at least weekly) to learn your current status and if you need to play a ladder match.

We will use the following rules for which teams need to play next.

  • Teams in Bold play up.
  • Teams in italics play down.
  • Teams with  <> signifies that this team is not active.

At this time the following teams need to play a match. The challenger's team is in bold.

  • Sloan, Ralph VS Stuart, Chase -  score is due by end of 12/29/2024.

1. Stuart Bryan (740-670-4520), Chase Philmon (512-550-8790)

WCTA DOUBLES LADDER INFO/RULES

  1. Ladder will be open to all members of the WCTA, regardless of age, or skill level.

  2. Teams will be listed/numbered in single file from top to bottom [new Teams will be added to the bottom, some may be inserted higher depending on experience or NTRP rating, but must play down first].
  3. Contact between Teams should be made via email or phone text/call, all teams have their emails/phone #'s displayed by their name.

  4. In order to move up the ladder, a Team must have won their last match.

  5. When a team defeats the team above, they will be placed above the defeated team and the winning team regains the right to play up again.

  6. When a team loses a match, they must play down (against the team below) and win before they can play up again to advance. Exception: If the losing team becomes the last active team on the ladder then they will challenge up.
  7. The challenging(lower-ranked) team is responsible for making initial contact to the team above and furnishing a new can of tennis balls for the match.  The winning team is responsible for reporting the outcome of the match to the ladder director. The higher ranked team can always reach out first too instead of waiting, the goal is to keep the play going so the sooner the communication starts, the better.
  8. All matches will be 2 out of 3 full sets,  following standard USTA rules using regular AD scoring.  IF the two teams agree, a third set 10pt tie-break may be played in place of a full third set, but this needs be agreed upon by both teams before the match begins.  A 7 point tie-break shall be played to decide any set that reaches game count 6-6.
  9. Tiebreaker format shall be regular style, unless both teams agree to play Coman style. This is to be decided before the match starts. See/google USTA rules on regular and Coman tiebreakers if you are unsure on how they work.

  • Important...rule 9 needs to be discussed/decided before the match starts.^^^^^^^^^^^
  • The current ladder will be maintained on this page of the WCTA  web site http://www.wimberleytennis.org/ that players can watch and see when there is someone above them available to challenge, so no need to wait on a email announcing matches. This link will be updated frequently and has a time stamp at the top, so keep an eye out for changes around you.

  • Players' playing status will be shown using the following:

    • Name in BOLD means player is playing up.

    • Name in italics means player must play down.

    • Name in <> means player is temporarily out of competition and may be jumped.

  • Players should be ready to play about once a week depending on availability of opponents.

  • Any team which will be out for a week or more should notify the ladder director and their position will be placed on hold, allowing other teams to play around them.  The teams name will be inside <> until they are available to play.  A team whose position on the ladder is on hold will be moved down the ladder only when the team(s) below them challenges and defeats the team(s) above the the team on-hold position.

  • When a ladder challenge is made, a team must accept the challenge and work out a time and place to play within 10 days, or forfeit the match or put themselves on hold by contacting the ladder director via email or text.  This will enable the challenging team to play around the on-hold team and (potentially) move up the ladder.

  • When a team, after having lost their last match, challenges and plays a team above them on the ladder, the results of that match will not effect either teams ranking on the ladder. The challenging team must play down and win before challenging up again to advance.  So these will basically be considered "fun/practice" matches to work on your game.
  • If two teams are ranked next to each other in bold and are both waiting for above matches, then the lower ranked player may challenge the higher ranked player.  The challenge does have to be accepted (unless the challenged team is involved in a challenge) and the standard ladder rules apply.  Winner will stay bold and move up one position, loser will turn italics and drop one  position. This only applies to active teams right next to each other in ladder rank.
  • If you schedule a match during a WCTA league play time(Tues/Thurs pm, Sat am) at the WISD courts, please be considerate of court availability and postpone/reschedule if all of the courts are needed for doubles play.  Just jump in and play some doubles with your fellow WCTA members!
  • Request to sign up for the ladder via the Contact link on this website, or contact the ladder director, Humberto Vasquez. Email: humberto@vasqueztx.org  /      ph#:713-927-1062
  • The current doubles ladder will be maintained on this page of the WCTA web site http://www.wimberleytennis.org/
